Fire fighters have recovered the body of a young man from a canal in Bridgwater this afternoon.

Two fire engines and the specialist rescue team from Bridgwater were called to the Overbridge A38 at around 12.08pm

A fire service spokesman said: "On arrival at the scene crews liased with police on scene to rescue a person.

"One person was recovered from the canal and handed to paramedics on scene."

Police say the body is that of a 24-year-old man. It is understood that he was already dead and there are no suspicous circumstances.
