Seized fire hydrants due to icy weather and fears that gas cylinders could explode faced fire crews from Bridgwater and Burnham as they attended a blaze at an industrial park this morning.
Crews received a call reporting a van on fire at Dunball Industrial Estate, Puriton just after 9am. A crew from Bridgwater was initially sent, with a further appliance swiftly requested from Burnham as it was believed Acetylene cylinders were involved.
The firefighters found one commercial vehicle involved in fire with smoke issuing from the rear of the vehicle.
As it was believed that various pressure vessels including Acetlyene were in the van, crews stood by defensively with a covering jet on the fire.
Crews also requested the attendance of the water carrier to help with the water supply due to the nearby hydrants seizing up from the cold weather.
By 11.20am the fire was extinguished.
The cause was a suspected electrical fault.
