A LORRY trailer filled with scrap metal caught fire on Bath Road in Ashcott, near Bridgwater.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 12.30pm yesterday (Tuesday, July 31) after a large plume of smoke could be seen travelling across the A39 between Bridgwater and Street.
Crews requested backup in the form of a water carrier and aerial ladder platform from Bridgwater, and managed to get the attached vehicle clear of the trailer.
The team battled the blaze for just short of five hours and extinguished the blaze using monitors, a compressed air foam system jet, a hydraulic platform backed up with two water carriers and a dam, two breathing apparatus, a thermal image camera and a triple extension ladder.
