BRIDGWATER firefighters were sent to the scene of a fire involving scrap metal in Glastonbury at 4.46am today.
They were joined by fire crews from Glastonbury, Street and Wells in the scrapyard, where they found tonnes of metal scrap that was burning.
Two fire crews were initially sent to the incident. Another fire engine and an aerial ladder platform were requested.
The fire was put out with the use of three water jets and one foam jet. The owner also assisted with a mechanical grabber.
The fire service incident report said: "Two fire crews were sent to a report of a fire within the grounds of a scrapyard.
"On arrival they found a large fire involving scrap metal. A further fire engine and aerial ladder platform was requested."
This fire involved around 50 - 60 tonnes of scrap metal. The cause of the fire is being reported as accidental.
