A PLANNING application recently submitted to Somerset Council outlines plans to create a pedestrian and cycle path on the Gravity Smart Campus between Puriton and Woolavington.
This is Gravity Ltd have - in specifics - applied for permission for the construction of a pedestrian and cycle route including landscaping and associated infrastructure.
It was recently announced the site which comprises the former Royal Ordnance Factory will be the home of the Agratas giga-factory, which will be the country's largest battery factory.
Plans are also underway to demolish and rebuild an existing social club on the site with a new multi-million pound leisure facility.
Previously approved plans from 2023 granted Gravity permission to create two paths, one to Puriton, and another to Woolavington.
While the company plans to go ahead with the pre-approved Puriton cycle/pedestrian path, the recent application seeks major changes to the cycleway to Woolavington.
The proposed pedestrian and cycle path would begin to the right hand side of the existing Western Approach Road, and run adjacent to Woolavington Road, before then zig-zagging around buildings until reaching the village itself.
It is planned that the cycleway/footpath will be situated between existing horse chestnut and alder trees, although some existing trees and vegetation will have to be removed or reduced to accommodate the plans.
If plans are approved, the path would be surfaced with self binding gravel, meaning no digging is required, and any existing concrete would be broken out.
For more information on the application, search reference number 42/24/00010 on Somerset Council's online planning portal.
Comments are welcomed until Friday, May 10 - a decision could be made from the following day.
