BRIDGWATER residents living near a collapsed wall at the River Parrett are being advised to evacuate their properties.
The wall caved in this afternoon on the West Quay, near Ocean Fish Bar, and firefighters have cordoned off the area.
Around 20 ft of the wall and some of the nearby road has dropped into the river following the heavy rainfall.
It is feared it could become a major incident and firefighters and police on the scene are reportedly advising residents living 3 to 4ft away to leave their properties as a precaution.
Eyewitness Hannah Whitehouse who works in nearby salon Cutz said: "We were outside when it happened. We saw water flooding the area all down the road and suddenly it disappeared through a gap. It all happened in a split second and the next thing we knew the fire brigade were on the scene, dealing with it."
Roads surround the area - including West Quay, East Quay, part of Eastover, Castle Street and the town bridge - have been closed.
