Toolstation Western League: Welton Rovers 0-2 Bridgwater United

BRIDGWATER United won well at the weekend in their away trip to Welton Rovers in the Toolstation Western League.

The match ended 0-2 in favour of the visiting Robins as they picked up their second clean sheet win in as many matches.

In the match, it began a fairly even encounter as both sides matched each other in defence and attack.

There was a few clear chances for both teams but none found the back of the net and such the game began to settle.

Bridgwater began to press higher up the pitch and spread the ball wide on many occasions to spread the game.

This opened the game up even more and Jack Taylor, Jay Murray and George King all had chances during this passage of domination.

However it wasn't until the 40th minute that the deadlock was broken when Ben Griffith converted impressively from a free kick about 25 yards out.

The score remained 0-1 at the half time break and deservedly so Bridgwater had the lead, although they would have felt they could have had two or three goals.

It was more of the same in the second half as the visitors continued to search for a second goal.

It came in the 63rd minute when experienced striker Taylor got to the end of a cross to finish and double the Robins lead.

From this point, Bridgwater looked to maintain the lead for the final 25 minutes or so and see out the win.

Welton did begin to create some chances and frustrate the away team a little which resulted in some poor challenges and yellow cards for Tom Llewellyn and substitute Adam Wright.

However the hosts couldn't make the most of their chances and Bridgwater held firm to record the clean sheet, the win, and took the three points back to Somerset.

Bridgwater United: Mark Armstrong, Ben Griffith, George King, Finlay Koppa, Thomas Llewellyn, Jay Murray, Joshua Phillips, Luke Purnell, Jason Quick, Jack Taylor, Jack Thorne.

Substitutes: Sam Hedges, Josiah McKayle, Fran Souza, Adam Wright.

Up next for Bridgwater is a home match against third-placed Falmouth Town on Saturday, March 16. Kick off is 3pm at Fairfax Park.

The match is a must win game for both sides in their bids for promotion and Falmouth will be looking to get one back on Bridgwater after their previous meeting earlier in the season.
