THE Folk Song a Day tour hits Bridgwater Arts Centre on Saturday as acclaimed singer Jon Boden performs with The Remnant Kings.

On midsummer’s day last year, Jon Boden launched an ambitious new project, a folk song a day, which was to see the singer post a traditional song on-line daily to promote the art of ‘social’ singing.

As part of the project - which reached number one in the iTunes music podcast charts in its first week - Boden brings his motley crew of post-apocalyptic folk survivalists to showcase just a few of the folk songs from the on-going project.

Lively new arrangements of traditional material will weave in and out of Boden's Songs From The Floodplain - his critically acclaimed album set in a dystopian future.

The band line-up includes multi-instrumentalists Sam Sweeney and Paul Sartin plus concertina virtuoso Rob Harbron and double bass maestro Rick Foot.

Also making a return appearance will be wax cylinder players Eric and Edith.

After the gig, the band will lead a singing session with the audience and will record a rendition of a folk song and that song to be posted on the A Folk Song a Day podcast the following morning.

For advance notice of which song will be given, contact the arts centre.

Along with his two solo albums, Boden has released several highly acclaimed albums with fast-rising big band Bellowhead as well as Vagabond with the traditional duo, Spiers and Boden.

He has also recorded and performed with Eliza Carthy on one of her Mercury Prize nominated albums, performed on Later with Jools Holland and made two televised appearances at the BBC 2008 Proms.

The event starts at 8pm. Tickets are £17.50 on the door or £15 in advance from the box office on 01278-422700.
