SMITHEN Phil Of Moorland, passed away peacefully with his loving wife beside him, at Casa di Lusso Care Home, on the 1st May 2024. Aged 74 years. Phil will be sadly and greatly missed by his loving wife Lana, son Jason and daughter-in-law Nicola, daughter Emma and son-in-law Rhys, grandchildren Oscar, Louis and Will, family and friends. A funeral service will be held at St. Peter & St. John Church, Moorland on Thursday 23rd May 2024 at 12:00 noon, followed by a private committal. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Phil for Dementia UK may be left at the Church or forwarded to: Bridgwater Funeral Services, 15 Bristol Road, Bridgwater, TA6 4AU. Tel: 01278 457755.

I was so very fortunate to have Mr Smithen as my headteacher. He was truly an inspirational man. As others have also said, his compassion was beyond measure. He had a huge impact upon my life, not just academically but also in terms of the moral principles and values he instilled within me. He is one of the reasons I myself became a teacher. I often think of him when I'm teaching and his pedagogy has influenced my own. I look back on my days at Somerset Bridge with great fondness and love. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My sincerest condolences to his family. God bless you Mr Smithen x

Mr Smithen was the best head teacher I have ever met. His compassion was amazing. I thank him for my neat cursive handwriting. He has left an incredible legacy behind in the children he had an impact on
