UPDATE: Police have amended their appeal saying that the incident occured in the West Street area of Bridgwater and not Bower as previously stated.
POLICE are appealing for information on two males who forced entry into the home of an elderly resident in the West Street area of Bridgwater.
The incident happened at approximately 6pm on Monday November 24 when the men knocked on the door and asked to use the telephone.
The woman, 73, refused and the men forced entry into the property.
One man was described as well built, 40ish, having a soft Irish accent, a full face, fair curly hair, bushy eyebrows, blue eyes, and was wearing a dark anorak.
After looking round the property the men left, leaving the woman shaken and upset and is now being supported by the police lighthouse team and the ‘Homes for Sedgemoor’ team.
Sergeant Chris Walls said: “This is an isolated incident in Bridgwater and our officers have visited the location to carry out safety checks and to reassure the residents.
“We are stepping up our high visibility patrols in the area.”
The police are reminding residents to always use the door chain when answering the door and always ask for ID from cold callers.
If necessary call the company to confirm they are genuine using a number from the phone book and not the identification number given by the visitor.
If you are not expecting visitors don’t answer your door
They are also urging elderly residents not to keep valuables and cash at home and keep doors locked and windows secure at all times.
