CARNIVAL day in Bridgwater is not just about the spectacle of the evening procession.
A raft of attractions run throughout Saturday, including music, dance, theatre and more.
People walking the streets are sure to encounter jugglers, stilt walkers, street theatre, marching bands and other entertainment, with a particular slant on entertaining children, ensuring everyone is catered for as the build up to the evening events gets underway.
“But you will need to be in the town centre early to enjoy the full Bridgwater Carnival experience as the fun kicks off at 10am,” said a carnival spokesman.
“So make a note to arrive early, then take time to stroll around the town, witness the lively entertainment and pause to watch yourself on the big screen – probably the largest ‘selfie’ you’ll ever see.
“There’s live music on the Cornhill Stage continuously from 10.30am to 7.30pm with music to suit most tastes.
“The High Street Performance area is the place to be to see the marching bands, majorettes and some hilarious street entertainment.
“Meanwhile the High Street Stage combines live music with street theatre, or you can sit and relax to the sounds of the Wells City Band and Somerset Songbirds as they perform live in the St Mary’s Church.
“The morning in Angel Place Shopping Centre will echo with singing from the ACTS choir performing all your memorable songs.
“The entertainment in the centre continues in the afternoon too, where you will also find balloon sellers and face painting for the younger family members.”
Things get underway on the High Street Stage from 11.20am, with the Cornhill Stage hosting acts from 10.30am.
However, street entertainment will be running throughout the day, so be sure to arrive early.
