THE villagers in Fiddington have been rejoicing after completing a long term project to repair and restore the village hall.
On Saturday, chairman of Sedgemoor District Council Peter Clayton joined villagers to open the annual flower show and see the completed work.
Robin Kinahan, chairman of the Fiddington Village Hall committee has been one of the driving forces behind the community project.
“Four years ago, a structural survey set off a chain of events which has rejuvenated our village hall,” Mr Kinahan said.
“With the help of the Asda Community Foundation, the gutters and sofit boards were replaced. Then with the help of Viridor and Somerset Community Foundation (SCF) we restored the lovely old roof beams and installed proper insulation.
“Finally, with the help of the Hinkley C CIM fund we were able to completely remodel and update our kitchen, install proper fire prevention, and strip and varnish the floor.”
On top of this the team raised money with the help of SCF, to recreate the old Victorian school bell tower.
