MIDAS Construction is set to begin work on a brand new 144-bedroom Ibis Hotel for Bridgwater.

This is the second time Midas has worked with Zeal Hotels, following the recent successful completion of a new Holiday Inn Express hotel in the town for the same customer.

The £11.8 million five-storey hotel located at Woodlands Court Business Park will feature a restaurant and conferencing facilities and will provide accommodation for an increasing number of visitors to the town and surrounding areas.

The start of work on site was marked with a ground-breaking ceremony, with Midas and Zeal teams joined by Cllr Gill Slocombe, portfolio holder for inward investment, and Peter Clayton, chairman of Sedgemoor District Council.

Chairman of the Midas Group, Steve Hindley, was also in attendance.

The project is due for completion in October 2020.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Derek Quinn, executive director at Midas Construction, said: “We are delighted to once again be working with our customer Zeal Hotels and we are looking forward to continuing our partnership with them as this new hotel starts to take shape.

“Bridgwater is becoming a key location in the South West, attracting considerable inward investment.

"We are proud to be playing our part in this exciting time for the area and to be involved in this latest new hotel project which will help to provide accommodation for people working in or visiting the area.”

Tim Wheeldon, managing director at Zeal Hotels, said: “We were very impressed with Midas’ quality of work and attention to detail during the construction of our first hotel, the Holiday Inn Express at J24 Bridgwater.

"This hotel opened in April 2019 and although it’s early days, it is already proving very popular with both business and leisure guests.

“This new Ibis Hotel at Woodlands Court Business Park will also feature a Keepers Bar & Restaurant providing residents and non-residents with a locally-themed destination to visit for a coffee, a meeting, lunch or an evening meal.

“Our company strategy is to provide quality hotel facilities in areas where long term demand is growing and we are very pleased to be working once again with Midas Construction in providing what will be the largest internationally branded hotel and restaurant in Bridgwater.”
