THE manager of The Snug bookshop in Bridgwater says she worries for the future of her business after heavy rain caused part of the shop front to come down from the Grade II listed building last week.
Sam Carr runs the independent bookshop and cafe on Bridgwater’s East Quay, and during last week’s stormy weather, she was shocked to see part of the front of the shop had been damaged.
Sam says she has been struggling to get the support she needs and says while she understands the need to protect listed buildings, the necessary repair work needs to be undertaken quickly.
“It is frustrating because we worked our socks off to bring this derelict building back into use and the get the business up and running,” Ms Carr said.
“If we get more rain like we did last week then there is going to be more damage.
“It is not coronavirus alone that is going to kill small businesses, it is stuff like this.”
After posting on social media about the matter, Sam said she had been overwhelmed by the messages of support she had received from customers, reading enthusiasts and other bookshops.
The Snug Bookshop has been shortlisted in the New Business of the Year category for the 2020 Sedgemoor Business Awards.
