BRIDGWATER residents are being asked to give their views on how to revitalise a green space near a flagship regeneration project.

Sedgemoor District Council will begin work on regenerating the Northgate site on Mount Street in January, delivering a new seven-screen cinema, gym, bowling alley and restaurants.

As part of the £15M project, improvements will also be made to the nearby Brewery Field green space, which connects the council-owned site to the town’s historic quayside.

The council is now asking residents to specify what improvements are needed so they can be delivered early on in the scheme.

Bridgwater was one of 101 towns across the UK which was selected to bid for up to £25M to support regeneration efforts in and around its town centre.

The government has provided £750,000 of this upfront, with £150,000 being earmarked to improvements to Brewery Field.

The field lies to the west of the Northgate Primary School, bordered by Anson Way to the north and Blacklands to the south-west.

The council voted in October to invest up to £15M into the overall Northgate project, with the stipulation that regular progress reports will come back to public meetings to ensure the money is being properly spent.

A spokeswoman said: “From now until December 9, Sedgemoor residents can comment on the proposals and share views so that the scheme reflects the needs and aspirations of the people who use the area.

“Because of these unusual circumstances where face-to-face consultation cannot take place, Stuart Martin, our project Manager for the Northgate project, will be able to answer queries or take ideas on the following number 01278 435459.”
