FIREFIGHTERS were on their way back to their station when they were diverted to a chimney fire.
The crew from Somerton had just completed their shift at a major fire at Bridgwater and Taunton College, in Bridgwater, when they were called to the second incident in King William Road, Catcott.
Another crew from Glastonbury, who had also been working at the college, joined their Somerton counterparts at the Catcott incident at 10.42am today (Thursday).
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews got to work using chimney gear from the hearth and inspecting the loft space.
"At 11.20am crews requested a further fire engine to attend which was sent from Glastonbury, who were also returning from another incident.
"Crews confirmed this was a difficult chimney and were extinguishing the fire from the roof using working at height equipment, chimney gear, thermal imaging camera and small tools.
"The fire was confirmed extinguished at 12.30pm."
