RESIDENTS in Sedgemoor are being asked to become ambassadors for climate change.

Sedgemoor District Council (SDC) are asking people to volunteer to become an environmental champion.

The aim is to use these champions to spread information and positive action in Sedgemoor to help combat climate change.

The scheme will involve online events, green networking opportunities, knowledge-sharing and a newsletter to share good practice and success stories.

A spokesperson for SDC said: “Sedgemoor is asking residents to volunteer to become ambassadors for climate change awareness in the community and help spread information and positive action throughout the district.

“This is just one action from Sedgemoor’s Climate Action plan, which relies on working together with district council, county, town and parish councils, local stakeholders, businesses and individual residents working together towards our collective carbon neutrality goal.

“The full set of documents which sets out what climate issues Sedgemoor District Council is tackling is now on the website.

“It sets out how we work with partners, individuals and community groups to pinpoint ways to make Sedgemoor and Somerset carbon neutral by 2030, taking into account both production and consumption emissions.”

The key areas of action for SDC include: business and economy; travel; food and agriculture; energy and buildings; waste and nature.

The Strategy and Action Plan are complimentary to the Somerset-wide Climate Emergency Strategy, which all councils in Somerset have worked together to produce.

A public consultation on the action plan took place during November/December last year.
