A SWAN took its life into its own wings on the busy motorway through Somerset this week.
Traffic was halted by the bird as it got into a flap on the M5.
Police were called to the scene of the incident near Junction 23 for Bridgwater and Highbridge.
An officer pounced on the swan, wrapped it up in his hi vis jacket and set it free nearby.
The bird was unharmed in the incident earlier this week.
An officer tweeted: "Outstanding drills on the M5 near Junction 23 earlier this week as one of our officers PC Loof put his BritishSwanSociety Swan Handling Level 1 course to the test.
"Luck catching them swans!"
