FIRE broke out at a building in Bridgwater being renovated this evening (Friday).
The blaze in a property in Taunton Road, which started at 7.21pm, is believed to have been an arson attack.
Crews from Bridgwater, Taunton and Burnham-on-Sea were sent to the incident.
On arrival firefighters were met by a "large amount of smoke" coming from the building.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The incident involved a fire in a two storey building which is currently under renovation, measuring approximately 30m x 30m.
"Crews extinguished the fire using 4 breathing apparatus wearers, 2 main jets and 2 hosereel jets.
"The fire, which was contained to the ground floor, caused 30% fire damage to the room and 40% smoke damage.
"Crews removed floor boards of property to check for hotspots.
"The cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate. Police also attended."
