THE mayor of Bridgwater attended the re-opening of the Talking Cafe last week.
Talking Cafe's across Somerset re-opened last Monday (June 7).
Mayor of Bridgwater, Cllr Leigh Redman, visited the Talking Cafe at The Hub in Angel Place.
“I have to admit the opportunity to show people that Bridgwater is returning to a more normal community now that Covid restrictions are starting to ease is great," he said.
"To be able to meet people face to face opens up access to help or provide guidance for those that may need individual support.
"It fills me with pleasure to welcome people back and the village agent team are ready to give their support.
"The Covid-19 precautions at the cafe worked well and the welcome was great.”
Talking Cafe's provide individuals with advice and support. A village agent can help with any social problems you are struggling with.
Previously, the village agents have helped with issues such as financial hardship, loneliness, isolation and employment issues, as well as people who are looking for social opportunities such as volunteering.
Alongside the village agents, other professionals such as Deafinate and the Alzheimers society will be on hand to offer advice.
Laura Giddins, the Sedgemoor team leader for village agents, added: "We are opening slowly due to Covid-19 restrictions, so all Talking Cafes are strictly by appointment only.
"If you would like to meet with your local village agent to discuss any issues you or a loved one might have, please call us to book an appointment on 01823 331222.”
Bridgwater Talking Cafe is at The Hub, Angel Place, every Thursday between 11am and 1pm.
Online Talking Cafes are still on Facebook on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Visit facebook.com/talkingcafesomerset/live.
