ALMOST 100 years to the day since the Bridgwater branch of the Royal British Legion was formed, they have found themselves a new home in the town.
This year is the 100th anniversary of the Royal British Legion in Great Britain, making Bridgwater among the founding branches, established on July 20 1921.
As part of the celebrations, their new premises at County Court Chambers, Queen Street, will open on Friday, July 23, staffed by volunteers.
A spokesperson for the Legion said “The new office is being geared mainly to provide a contact point for the local Military community, and especially for those people who need help with welfare provision, which is becoming ever more difficult, if you don’t have the IT skills or equipment.”
“On July 23 we will open with a coffee and cake morning and we are expecting a very special guest in the shape of a wonderful Chelsea Pensioner.
"We are hoping to see a good turnout of veterans on the day and of course families and of course currently serving armed forces members.”
The branch is dedicated to carrying on the work started back in 1921, in support of the military community.
