A SOMERSET salon has become one of the first in the UK to trial 100% recyclable gowns to avoid using disposable plastic ones. 

MANE, a Bridgwater hairdressing and barbers' salon located in Angel Crescent, is trialling CARTIM Recyclables' Polyair gowns to reduce its impact on the environment. 

The gowns are made from sugarcane waste, making them an environmentally friendly and hygienic alternative to single-use plastics. 

Jade Ogden, co-owner of the salon, said: "It’s exciting to be one of the first salons to trial these new Polyair gowns. Plastic waste is a huge problem in our industry and taking steps to tackle this is vital on an individual and collective scale.

"We’re delighted to have been supplied by CARTIM Recyclables with these carbon-neutral recyclable gowns that adhere to our ethos of sustainable beauty." 

The gowns are manufactured in Witney, Oxfordshire and extruded, cut and packed at the CARTIM factory in Somerset.
