A CAR smashed into a street light and ended up on its side in the early hours of this morning.
A person was stuck in the vehicle following the collision in North Petherton at 4.11am today (Sunday, August 22).
Firefighters released the victim and left them in the care of paramedics before being taken to hospital.
Electrical engineers were called out to ensure the damaged street light was made safe.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews were mobilised to reports of a car involved in a road traffic collision in the early hours this morning.
"Upon arrival they confirmed that one vehicle was involved, and that this vehicle was on its side with a casualty still within it.
"Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to release the casualty and left them in the care of the paramedics to be conveyed to hospital.
"Western Power also attended the incident, ensuring that a street light that had been damaged as a result of the collision was made safe."
