A SOMERSET shop is bucking convention, by offering a discount on some products to people NOT wearing a mask.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues, a shop in Glastonbury has taken an unconventional approach to mask advice.
Hemp in Avalon is offering a 20% discount on certain products for 'face to face' transactions.
A sign on the Market Place shop's door reads: "Please remove face coverings.
"No masks needed, just smiles.
"20% discount on Bhang Botanicals Hemp Flower extracts on all 'face to face' transactions."
Facemasks are no longer legally required in England, although the Government advice says it "expects and recommends" people wear them in crowded space, such as as on public transport.
In December last year, Hemp in Avalon was reprimanded by the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) for an advert in which it said it welcomed people 'with or without a mask'.
The ASA said the ad, placed in local publication The Oracle, discouraged members of the public from wearing face coverings in the Hemp in Avalon shop, and more widely.
The watchdog said it noted that, from July 24 2020, people in England were required by law to wear face coverings in a number of public settings, including shops.
