A FUNDRAISING event for a cancer charity raised more than £2,000 last month.
Anita Smith, along with the help of Sharon Hooper and Kelly Nicholson, decided to organise a charity afternoon tea after Anita’s best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.
The event, held on Sunday, August 22, at Bar Brunel in Bridgwater, raised £2,025 for Breast Cancer Now.
“The service at Bar Brunel exceeded all our expectations,” said Anita.
“Their dedication, hard work and generosity was amazing and they allowed us to hold our fundraising event free of charge.
“As well as this they supplied all the crockery/cutlery and this definitely contributed to our success.
“The event was a sell out and everyone seemed to have a fantastic time.
“A lot of people turned up and it was a really good day.
“Everyone has been asking if it will be a yearly event, as they all had such good fun.
“We are very proud of what we have achieved for such an amazing cause.
“The people of Bridgwater really came together.”
Cakes were donated by Lorraine Smith, Roxanne Court and Crazy Confectionary. And the decorations were from Balloons & Ribbons in Bridgwater.
A raffle was also held during the afternoon tea, with prizes donated from businesses. Donations came from:
- The Nutmeg Restaurant
- Mecca
- Scott Cinema
- Spice Club
- A Twist of Somerset
