STORM Eunice is continuing to have an affect on rail services today (Saturday, February 19) with a number of routes not active.

Strong winds from Eunice has caused more than 40 fallen trees to block routes across South Western Railway's network, and work is currently ongoing to clear them.

The operator said in an update on Saturday morning: “While we are working hard to run as many services as we safely can, we strongly advise you not to travel on our network until further notice.

“Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that we’re able to get you to where you need to be, as replacement services will not be available on certain routes.”

Greater Western Railway confirmed this morning that work is still ongoing to get their services up and running as normal.

 

On social media they said that due to the extent of the work needed to be carried out in order to return to normal, their service may be affect all weekend.

Tickets for journeys from Friday and Saturday are valid for use on later services up until Monday February 19.

Yesterday, Mike Gallop, Network Rail western route and strategic operations director, said: "The decision we’ve taken to suspend all train services across the western route is one that has not been taken lightly, however the safety of our passengers and colleagues is paramount.

"The message to passengers is clear – please do not attempt to travel by train."
