RESIDENTS of a seaside town in Somerset could soon find a "mini-Glastonbury" on their doorstep if a local holiday park gets its entertainment licence changed.
The Haven Holiday Park on Marine Drive in Burnham-on-Sea has been welcoming both Somerset residents and tourists from further afield since the mid-1960s.
Bourne Leisure -which owns Haven - secured planning permission in February to demolish a number of buildings within the park to provide more accommodation, as the demand for 'staycations' continues to rise.
The company has now applied to Sedgemoor District Council to vary its existing licence to allow more outside entertainment - a prospect which has raised concerns among some neighbouring residents.
Under the proposals, a new external stage will be erected within the outside entertainment area in the middle of the complex, with the licence allowing entertainment between 11am and 11pm daily.
The entertainment being provided can include live and recorded music along with plays, film screenings, boxing and wrestling matches, dance performances and other similar spectacles.
A new container bar would also be built within the outside entertainment area to supply patrons with alcoholic drinks - though there will be no change to the existing hours during which alcohol can be served.
Posters have been published on social media in the Burnham-on-Sea area, describing the proposals as creating "a mini-Glastonbury on our doorstep" and calling on residents who "value the peace and quiet of their home environment" to object to the plans.
