A MUM will be completely shaving her head to raise money for new school playground equipment and a charity.
Ruth Richardson has been growing her hair for the past three years and will be donating money to Nether Stowey Primary School and The Little Princess Trust that will make wigs for children who have lost their hair for health reasons.
After two years of frustration and compromised fundraising opportunities due to Covid restrictions, Ruth said: "There is a real lack of funding for school playgrounds, despite the fact that outside play has been shown to have huge benefits for children's social skills and their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
“I wanted to do something to help the school and decided to take the plunge and shave my head as fundraising seems to be the only way for schools to afford improved facilities.”
Nether Stowey Primary School’s previous play equipment had to be removed as it had reached the end of its life and there have just not been the funds available to replace it.
Ruth also added: "Although running a marathon would have been much more physically demanding, this will be very emotional as I will be living with the lack of hair for many months to come.
“However, the children have been through so much over the last two years; I hope the playground equipment will make a difference for many years to come, and my hair will be used to make a difference for a child who has lost theirs."
All money raised will go directly to the school’s charity Nether Stowey School Fund to purchase new equipment.
Ruth is booked at Reds Salon in Nether Stowey on March 17.
