RESIDENTS in Fiddington are "delighted" with a new playground at the village hall following its completion last month.

The playground, which contains a slide, swings and a seesaw, was made possible by funding from Viridor Credits through its Landfill Communities Fund.

Robin Kinahan, chair of the village hall trustees, said: “Our little village is delighted with our new playground, which will be wonderful for local children and the children of the Home Education Group, who use our hall and grounds once a week.”

The playground was finished on Friday, February 18, and it took around two weeks to install.

Old pieces of play equipment were removed before foundations were dug for the new apparatus.

Once the new equipment was in the ground, the surface was secured and flattened and the safety mulch was laid.

The playpark was allowed to open after it passed an independent safety inspection.

In July 2019, a long-term project to repair and restore Fiddington Village Hall was completed.

Alison Salvador, general manager at Viridor Credits, said: “Congratulations to all involved with the application from Fiddington Village Hall on securing the award to update the village playground through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF).

“Providing quality, safe community spaces for everyone to enjoy has always been one of the major aims of the LCF.

“At Viridor Credits, the funding group were delighted to support this local facility which is obviously an important part of village life but had begun to look increasingly outdated.

“We look forward to seeing the new equipment in the near future and hope that children and their families enjoy safe and happy play for many years to come.”
