A GROUP of primary school pupils planted small saplings near a church in Spaxton as part of the Plant Britain scheme.
Thirty small saplings, a mixture of Cherry, Rowan, and Silver Birch, were recently planted next to St Margaret’s Church car park in Spaxton by children from Spaxton CofE Primary School.
St Margaret's Church also joined the initiative
Volunteers from St Margaret’s Church also joined the initiative, which qualifies for inclusion under the Platinum Jubilee tree planting scheme.
Every tiny tree is protected by a plastic sleeve to prevent damage from wind and wild animals and only requires the surrounding area to be kept free from weeds whilst roots become established.
Twelve children from the school adopted a small circle of trees.
These children are Ethos Ambassadors for each class and returned to school after the planting to tell their classmates about the project.

The children will keep a check on their trees and everyone from the community is invited to take a look around the area and help keep the saplings free of weeds.
The intention is to provide a quiet, peaceful space where people and wildlife can.
