SATURDAY April 16, saw the return of Bridgwater Martial Arts to Blake Hall.
This being their second fight card in their history, they really wanted to up the ante, with a Southwest Fight League title fight rounding out the night.
The highlight of the night was brothers Luke and Sam Hardwell fighting on the same card for the first time in their competitive careers.
Sam was able to overcome Krystian Szurek of All or Nothing gym over 3 rounds with a win via decision.
While Luke had a much tougher fight against SWFL Light Heavyweight champion John Grayling of The Hook Boxing Club.
After a close fought fight, Luke came out the victor winning a very tight split decision over one of the best fighters in the region, across 5 spectacular rounds.
Reporter Harrison Lane caught up with the Hardwell brothers to discuss what the night was like.
Sam Hardwell said: "It was a really tough fight, against a much more experienced fighter and made even harder that he was a southpaw, this led to me finding it hard to utilise my jab.
"I overcome the issue with the jab and put all the power into my straight right, which is how I believe I won the fight.
"All in all, I was disappointed with my performance on the night, getting tired too quickly and not boxing smart, this led to me developing the attitude “get in there and get it done”. Well, that is what I did, I secured the win and I’ll be back again later this year to box again. One final thing I would like to say, is that my current team are the best I have ever had behind me.
For Luke Hardwell, this fight may be his last: "Retirement is definitely on the cards; I am starting to find it hard to keep it up. But you know you have made it when you are a household name within your local town and people will stop and say hello to you in the street.
"My opponent John Grayling is one of the most well-seasoned and successful fighters in the Southwest, just to fight him was an honor. Not only is he one of the best around but he is always fighting and never has any ring rust, whereas for me, it had been 3 years since my last bout."
"However, I felt so good as soon as I walked into the ring and made sure to exploit everything, I had learned in my training camp. I pushed and pushed and got the win.
"But now I am wondering whether I call it on my boxing career, what I have already achieved is enough for me and having beaten the best around, what else is there for me to do?"
