THREE drivers from Sedgemoor have been fined and handed penalty points after committing driving offences in the south west and Wales.
One driver pleaded guilty to speeding, and two were proved guilty of driving without third-party insurance last week.
The three men were fined hundreds of pounds and had their driving records endorsed with between three and eight points.
John Holland
A Sedgemoor man has been handed a court bill of over £800 after he was proved guilty of driving without third-party insurance on a road or public place.
John Holland, of Tapmoor Road, Moorlinch, was caught driving a Mitsubishi L200 Warrior at Leekes Car Park in Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire (Wales) “when there was no insurance in force covering the use of the vehicle”.
Holland, 56, committed the offence on December 2, 2021.
He was proved guilty under the single justice procedure on Thursday, May 12.
Holland was fined £660 and ordered to pay £90 in court costs and a £66 surcharge to fund victim services by a magistrate in Llanelli, giving him a total court bill of £816.
He was also handed six penalty points.
Holland was also proved guilty of driving a vehicle with no tachograph installed.
Court documents say he was driving the Mitsubishi “without there being recording equipment installed in the vehicle in accordance with the Community Recording Equipment Regulation”.
Tachographs – which record information about driving time, speed, and distance – are required for some vehicles used to carry passengers or goods.
Holland received no separate penalty for this offence.
Svetoslav Stoyanov
A Ford driver from Highbridge has been ordered to pay more than £800 after driving on a road or public place without third-party insurance.
Svetoslav Stoyanov, of Sloway Lane, drove on Honiton Road in Exeter, Devon, “when there was not in force in relation to that use such a policy of insurance or such as security in respect of third-party risks”.
Stoyanov, 33, committed the offence on October 22, 2021.
He was proved guilty under the single justice procedure by a magistrate in Bodmin, Cornwall, on Wednesday, May 11.
He was fined £660 and must also pay £90 in costs and a £66 surcharge, giving him a total balance of £816.
His driving record was endorsed with eight penalty points.
Stoyanov was also proved guilty of driving “otherwise than in accordance with a licence”, for which he received no separate penalty.
Mark James Ward
A man from Bridgwater has been handed a £216 court bill after he was caught speeding in a Volkswagen Transporter van on the A361 at Loxbeare near Tiverton, Devon.
Mark James Ward, of Herswell Park, exceeded the 50mph speed limit for vehicles “of that class” on September 30, 2021.
Court documents do not indicate the speed he was driving at.
Ward, 55, pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure and was sentenced by a magistrate in Bodmin on Wednesday, May 11.
He was fined £92 and ordered to pay £90 in court costs and a £34 surcharge to fund victim services.
He was also handed three penalty points.
Ward’s guilty plea was “taken into account when imposing sentence”.
