THIS year's Westcountry WARAG took visitors back to the 1920s to celebrate life at Westonzoyland Airfield when it was still in operational use.
The WARAG took place at Middlezoy Aerodrome at the airfield on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29.
This year's event placed emphasis on “military armour and vehicles on the move”.
It presented visitors with “an opportunity to learn of the airfield's long history from the 1920s through illustrated talks and a marquee exhibition”.
A highlight of the weekend was a Battle of Britain Spitfire fighter plane flypast on Saturday, which an event spokesperson said brought some guests to tears.
There were also static displays of vintage aircraft, exhibitions of military armour and vehicles, and a bar and food wagons on-site.
A post on the WARAG Facebook page after the event said: “The highlight of our clearly most successful event to date blessed with some of the warmest May weather yet.
“Today was just as good, but clearly the big draw of the Battle of Britain Spit drew the crowds in the greatest attendance yet.”
The post had an attached picture of the Spitfire during one of its three low-level flyovers “which some openly admitted brought them to tears”.
The WARAG returned for 2022 following the event's success in 2018 and 2019.
The event was cancelled because of Covid in 2020 before it came back last year.
