BUCKINGHAM Close in Bridgwater held a Platinum Jubilee celebration to rival the events held at the royal palace of the same name on Sunday.
Residents were joined by their friends and family members at the street party, complete with bunting, decorations, a spread of food, and a pragmatic plan for rain.
Heather Barlow, who helped organise the celebrations, told the Bridgwater Mercury: “We all pulled together to put up the gazebos up to shelter us all from the rain and food was supplied by all who attended.
“The planning began back in January when we all started buying bunting, knowing it was likely to sell out.
“Invites were posted, the driveways were marked out and, thankfully, we had a wet weather plan in place.”
The event was planned by Ryan and Heather Barlow, Rachel and Graham Culverwell, and Simon and Fiona Wheeler.
Street parties were held across the UK throughout the bumper bank holiday weekend to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne.
She became the reigning monarch in February 1952 and was coronated in June 1953 at Westminster Abbey.
As the weekend of celebrations drew to a close, the Queen said she was “humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee”.
She added: “I thank you most sincerely for your good wishes and for the part you have played in these happy celebrations.”
