POLICE officers have received “several reports” of vehicle break-ins in the East Bower area of Bridgwater, which took place overnight earlier this week.
Vehicles parked on several roads were broken into, with some victims having items stolen.
One resident of Broadoak Road told the Bridgwater Mercury that both vans parked on her and her partner's driveway were broken into.
She said Makita tools worth around £3,000 were taken from one of them.
The resident – who asked to remain anonymous – said a camera from their neighbour’s house recorded attempts to break into parked vehicles.
She said: “You can see them trying cars, vans, everything.
“They got into both of our vans. One’s basically a scrap van so it was empty, there was nothing to steal.”
She said it looked like they were using “some kind of key fob” to try and open the vehicles’ doors.
People living in East Bower can expect to see more police officers on patrol while investigations are carried out.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We have received several reports of vehicles being broken into in Bridgwater overnight on June 8-9.
“Victims reported items being stolen from vehicles parked on a number of roads in the East Bower area.
“CCTV enquiries are being undertaken as we seek to identify the individual or individuals responsible.
“The local neighbourhood team is aware of these break-ins and will conduct additional patrols in the area.”
Officers have asked for witnesses or anyone with information or footage that could assist their investigation to contact them by phoning 101 and quoting the reference number 5222135738.
