THE parents of a child who regularly failed to attend school have been ordered to pay a combined total of £2,418 by a Taunton Magistrates' Court.
The case against the parents, who live at separate addresses in Taunton, was proved in their absence.
The mother was fined a total of £1,320, with a £132 victim surcharge and £120 costs.
She was found guilty of two counts of not ensuring her child attended school regularly and of not ensuring he was receiving a suitable education between March last year and March this year.
The father was fined £660 with a £66 victim surcharge and £120 costs for failing to ensure the child attended school in the year to this March.
OTHER cases of parents not ensuring their children attended school include:
A TAUNTON mother was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £22 victim surcharge and £120 costs.
A BRIDGWATER mother was handed two £660 fines along with a £132 victim surcharge and £120 costs.
ANOTHER mother from Bridgwater was hit with a £660 fine and £66 victim surcharge and £120 costs.
FOR failing to ensure her child attended school regularly between April last year and February this year, a Bridgwater woman was fined £660 with £66 victim surcharge and £120 costs.
A FOURTH Bridgwater mother received a six-month conditional discharge with £22 victim surcharge and £40 costs.
*The County Gazette has not named the parents as there is a court order barring anything that could lead to the identification of the children in each case.
