A LEADING clean energy solutions providers is set to construct a solar farm on a 90-acre site at Bridgwater.
When fully operational, the solar project at Horsey Levels will produce enough energy to power around 9,750 average-sized UK homes per annum.
It will also offset approximately 6,500 tonnes of carbon emissions.
Enviromena has won planning permission for the scheme, which will feature 45,198 monocrystalline bifacial solar modules with a capacity of 24.18MWp and will generate 28,286MWhs of energy each year.
The planning permission comes at a time when UK consumers’ energy prices have shot up by an average 54 per cent so far this year.
And it is predicted prices will continue to rise for the foreseeable future due to the global unpredictability of supply caused by the war in Ukraine.
Environmena chief executive Cabell Fisher said such project approvals will reduce the UK’s dependence on imported fossil fuels, which often have a much higher carbon footprint than renewables and which are susceptible to supply shocks and price volatility.
The Horsey Levels project is the company's second UK development to achieve planning permission in the last 12 months, and is one of several solar PV developments it has sold to Blackfinch Energy, part of Blackfinch Group.
Mr Fisher added: "I am delighted that we have secured another planning permission in the UK for this highly bankable renewable project in Somerset and it follows in the wake of several other successful solar projects the Enviromena team has delivered in Europe in the last 12 months.
“Projects like this one will be critical to support the UK Government’s recent initiatives to implement more renewable solutions on the national grid and to bring down the cost of energy for industry and consumers alike.
"We now look forward to harnessing this momentum and hope more of our PV projects will come through the planning system so we can continue to support the UK’s commitment to hit its renewable energy targets and to further Enviromena’s mission to help facilitate the transition to a world powered by clean energy by providing safe, affordable, and reliable clean energy solutions to its customers.”
One of the UK’s largest clean energy solutions companies, Enviromena has more than 1GW of active solar farms and battery energy storage systems in development and operation throughout the UK and Europe.
