THE old Morganians recent annual reunion was held in an entirely different venue than previously, it was held at lunch time and it began with a tour of the venue.
On Saturday, June 25, Old Morganians held their Annual Reunion at Haygrove School in Durleigh Road, Bridgwater.
This was the first time that the Reunion was in the form of a lunch as always, previously, the annual event had been an evening dinner.
The changes resulted from an invitation by the Head Teacher of Haygrove who attended as a guest at the lunch which was held in the Dining Hall of his school and using the Catering Team who normally provide meals for pupils.
Haygrove School is on the site previously occupied by Dr Morgan’s Grammar School for Boys from 1937 to 1972 but the demolition of which began in April 2021.
The reunion began with groups of Old Morganians being guided on a tour of the splendid modern buildings by pupils who were members of the School’s Junior Leadership Team (JLT), all of whom are volunteers.
The Old Morganians were all very impressed by the descriptions delivered by the JLT who spoke with great confidence about the facilities, the content of their lessons, and how this all linked up with the examinations they would be taking.
The attached photograph shows Old Morganians reviewing World War I and II plaques that were previously on display in the Dr Morgan’s School.
Forty-seven members attended the lunch the beginning of which was started by a welcome from Old Morganians President, Bryan Lancastle and ended by a speech of thanks from Chairman Bill King to the Head Teacher, the JLT, and Caterers.
He went on to remind the attendees that 2023 will be the 300th anniversary of the founding of Dr Morgan’s Grammar School for Boys and that the Annual Reunion will be held at the Wembdon Village Hall in September 2023.
