THE Fire Service needed crews from seven different stations to deal with a straw baler on fire in North Petherton last night (August 8).
They received multiple calls from locals to say a straw baler was on fire in a field of recently cut straw.
After dealing with the fire, it was learned that the fire reached 125m of cut straw, hedgerow and farm machinery.
The fire was deemed to be accidental and occurred at 5.51pm.
Crews from Danes Castle, Crediton, Taunton, Bridgwater, Nether Stowey, Wiveliscombe and Martock attended the scene.
A spokesperson from the Devon and Somerset Fire Service said: "Multiple calls were received reporting a straw baler on fire within a field of cut straw.
"On arrival crews requested further appliances due to the fire spread.
"This was a fire involving 125m x 50 m of cut straw, hedgerow, straw bales and farm machinery.
"Crews extinguished using three hose reel jets, one main jet and a thermal imaging camera, The cause of the fire was accidental."
