CRICKETERS who undertook a 325-mile charity cycle in memory of a friend and teammate were celebrated when they arrived at the finish line on Sunday.
They completed the challenge to honour Josh (Jonathan) Vickery, who sadly died in August 2021 at the age of 40 after contracting meningitis.
The Bridgwater cricketers' cycle ride raised money for Josh's wife Jess and their three children, with some proceeds going to Meningitis Now.
A total of £10,540 has been raised, some of which the cricketers hope will be put into a trust fund for Josh and Jess's children to use when they are older.
The four-day ‘Cycle for the Vicar’ route began at Sheffield Hallam University, where Josh studied, and went to Anfield, Liverpool, on its first day.
They rode to Kidderminster on day two, before making it to Bristol on day three.
On their final day, they rode from Bristol to Bridgwater, where they were greeted by a welcome home party at the cricket club.
The cricket club hopes the event will help “ensure a brighter future, where no one dies from meningitis and anyone affected gets the support they need to live a happy, full and complete life”.
The family-friendly welcome home party featured inflatables, face painting, food and a bar, and live music from The Vixens and Jimmy And The Judges.
