ROBOTS aimed at improving school children's skills in computer science are now a part of Bridgwater United's community trust's offering.
At a launch event at McMillan Theatre in Bridgwater on Wednesday, October 5, the trust revealed their newest educating tool to the public and representatives from local schools.
Chairwoman Sarah Murry launched the football-based robots alongside her colleagues at the Bridgwater United Community Sports Trust.
She said: "Technology is constantly changing and children now have access to unique ways of learning, we hope these football robots will provide an exciting way of learning to the children in our region."
Bridgwater United Football Club said: "We have officially launched our Sphero provision in partnership with Gravity.
"United and the official Bridgwater United Community Sports Trust are the first non-league club in the country to have this STEM provision
Matt Mead from Sphero, who joined the conference on Zoom, said: "Sphero transforms the way kids PK–12 learn with a fun, comprehensive approach to STEAM (that's STEM + Art) and computer science.
"Our coding robots, design-and-build kits, curriculum, and engaging lessons and activities encourage exploration, imagination, and perseverance."
The announcement and launch has been done in partnership with Gravity, the site of the Governments newest innovation zones.
Martin Bellamy, chairman and CEO of Gravity said: "We are excited to see how this partnership continues to help the community in Bridgwater and the rest of Somerset.
"Gravity and the BUCST have similar goals and aims. We are aiming to to create a Smart Campus that delivers a new era of possibility, where companies make a difference socially, economically and environmentally."
The football robots are now a part of the Trust's offering and will be seen in and around schools in the very near future.
