A DEAF Woolavington man is set to take part in his first carnival procession this weekend after being welcomed into a successful carnival club.
Scott Davey, who is profoundly deaf, joined the Masqueraders shortly before the pandemic began and is looking forward to being part of their displays this month.
A family member, who asked not to be named, contacted the Mercury to praise the “amazing” Masqueraders for helping Scott, 50, became part of the club.
They said: “This is his first time in the carnival. He goes from work to the shed every night to do his bit.
“He’s always liked the Masqueraders. He’s got a daughter (Jemma). She went with him to their meeting to see what it was like. He is quite a personality.
“This is his first time on the cart. He’s so excited about it. They’ve all been brilliant and taken him under their wing. They work so hard – they all do.
“The club has been absolutely amazing. They call him part of the Masqueraders family.”
Scott and the rest of the Masqueraders club will take part in Bridgwater Carnival on Saturday, November 5, and compete across the county circuit.
The Masqueraders are based in Meare, a village located around three miles from Glastonbury. Scott lives in Woolavington.
The club is based at The Railway Inn and was established in 1985. The Masquerade theme it will showcase this year was first announced in February 2020.
