ROAD users in Bridgwater are being urged to carefully plan their journeys through the Bridgwater next week.
The A39 Western Way will be closed in one direction for five days next week, starting Monday, November 14.
Westbound traffic will be unable to access Western Way towards Wembdon while work to repair a water main leak takes place at the bridge over the River Parrett between Monday, 14 November and Friday, 18 November.
A diversion, using Bristol Road, the A38 Broadway, Wembdon Road and turning off towards Homberg Way at the roundabout off of Quartock Road, will be in place. Eastbound traffic will continue to be able to use the A39 Western Way across the bridge as normal.
A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “This is essential work to repair a mains leak on the bridge on Western Way (A39) and unfortunately it means the route will be shut to westbound traffic to ensure the work can be completed as quickly and safely as possible for the public and our work force.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and any delays to people’s journeys and would urge them to take into account the extra time they might need using the diversion in place, which will be signposted.
We expect the work to be finished by Friday 18 November and we have written to residents and businesses in the area to advise them about the work and potential short interruptions to their supply.’’
