A ROAD closure in Bridgwater has been lifted three days ahead of schedule following repairs to a water main.
Wessex Water started work on the faulty pipe at the bridge over the River Parrett on the A39 Western Way yesterday (Monday, November 14).
The road has now re-opened to traffic in both directions.
Westbound traffic was unable to access Western Way towards Wembdon while work to repair the leak got under way. A diversion, using Bristol Road, the A38 Broadway, Wembdon Road and turning off towards Homberg Way at the roundabout off Quantock Road, was put in place.
Eastbound traffic continued to use the A39 Western Way across the bridge as normal, but the route through the Somerset town has now reopened both ways as normal, well ahead of the Friday finishing date, after Wessex Water teams wrapped up the repairs.
A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to have completed this repair work well ahead of schedule and get what is a major route through Bridgwater open to traffic in both directions.
“This was an essential repair and we thank all road users for their co-operation while our teams worked quickly to carry out the work, as well as local residents and businesses for their patience during short interruptions to their supply.’’
