The first Bridgwater Local Community Network (LCN) meeting was successfully held on June 21st, marking an important milestone in community engagement and development within the Somerset Council area.

The meeting saw the election of Councillor Diogo Rodrigues as the Chairman of the Bridgwater LCN, with the proposal made by Councillor Gill Slocombe.

The inaugural meeting brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including Somerset Councillors, Bridgwater Town Council, Bridgwater Without Parish Council, representatives from education, business, and voluntary groups.

This collective assembly of dedicated individuals and organisations showcased their commitment to fostering strong connections between Somerset Council, residents, businesses, and partners.

The purpose of LCNs is to serve as a focal point for community engagement and development, emphasising local partnership working to improve outcomes for residents. LCNs provide a platform for residents to voice their concerns, share ideas, and participate in local decision-making processes. With 18 LCNs covering every corner of the new Somerset Council area, they are poised to become the voice of local communities.

During the Bridgwater LCN meeting, participants engaged in a productive brainstorming session, exploring various topics of concern and focus specific to the Bridgwater LCN area.

The meeting served as an initial step towards identifying evidence-based community priorities, encompassing economic, social, and environmental issues. These priorities will form the basis for future plans and actions that aim to address the identified needs of the community.

The participants have agreed to revisit the common themes discussed during the meeting at the next meeting, scheduled for September. By maintaining an open dialogue and inclusive approach, the Bridgwater LCN aims to create a framework for local projects, secure resource opportunities, and strengthen community ties.

The successful launch of the Bridgwater LCN sets a promising precedent for community engagement in the Bridgwater LCN area. It signifies the commitment of local stakeholders to work together towards common goals, fostering an environment where residents' voices are heard and their needs addressed effectively.
