NEW data has revealed the areas of Bridgwater in which burglaries are most common.
A recent study analysed over 7 million home insurance quotes from MoneySuperMarket Home Insurance customers to find the UK postcodes with the highest and lowest rates of burglary claims since 2020.
Findings show that those with postcodes starting with TA7 are much more likely to be burgled than any other area of Bridgwater.
The TA7 postcode includes the Puriton, Polden Hills, Westonzoyland, Middlezoy, Shapwick, Catcott, Ashcott, and Chedzoy areas.
Within this postcode, statistics show that TA7 homeowners have a 1.25% chance of their houses being broken into.
Since 2020, there have been 1.25 home insurance claims for every thousand homes in the area - a higher rate than other areas of Somerset including Clevedon, Taunton, and Yeovil.
The second most likely postcode in Bridgwater to experience a burglary is the TA6 area, which includes Bridgwater town, North Petherton, and Wembdon.
According to the study, there is a 0.928% chance of being burgled for those who live in this area.
It ranks lower than other Somerset postcodes including Wedmore and Weston-super-Mare.
The data revealed the TA5 postcode was among the least prolific areas for burglaries in the UK, ranking among the bottom seven percent in the nation.
Those living in the TA5 area which includes Cannington, Nether Stowey, Over Stowey, Spaxton, and Fiddington, experience just a 0.182% chance of being burgled.
For comparison, the Birmingham postcode of B94 which covers Olton and Solihull was the most prolific burglary hotspot in the nation, with a rate of 57.83 claims per 1,000 homes.
The Cambridgeshire PE15 postcode was revealed as the area with the lowest burglary rate in the UK - with only 0.28 claims for every thousand homes in the area.
David McDermottroe, home insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket said: "While it’s not a surprise to see the list of burglary hotspots dominated by large cities, it is interesting to learn that a large proportion of people in rural areas aren’t protecting their homes with a burglar alarm.
"Although this type of crime may be less common in those areas, unfortunately, no one is immune to burglars.
"If we take simple and effective preventative measures like installing an alarm, investing in decent locks for windows and doors and keeping valuables such as laptops and keys out of sight, it will not only make our homes less attractive to burglars, but it will be harder for them to break in.”
