A WOMAN from Bridgwater has been banned from driving for 17 months after getting behind the wheel of her Vauxhall Astra while over the legal limit for alcohol. 

Shelley Hopkin-Morgan, of Sunnybank Road, recorded 63 micrograms of alcohol in her breath after being caught on Broadway on Wednesday, September 27. 

The legal limit in England is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. 

Hopkin-Morgan, 38, admitted the offence at Taunton Magistrates' Court on Thursday, October 19. 

The court said her ban will be reduced by 17 weeks if she completes a drink-drive rehabilitation course by September 19, 2024. 

She was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £45 surcharge, giving her a total of £250 to pay by November 18. 


A Bridgwater man has been banned from driving for one year and fined £807 after riding a motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol. 

Samuel Norbury, of Verona Court, had 57 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath after riding his Suzuki on Critchard Way in Taunton on Friday, September 29.  

Norbury, 34, was handed a 12-month disqualification at Taunton Magistrates' Court on Thursday, October 19 after pleading guilty to the offence. 

His driving ban will be reduced by three months if he completes a drink-drive course by May 18, 2024.

Alongside his fine, he was ordered to pay a £323 surcharge and £85 in costs, giving him a £1,215 court bill to pay by November 18.
