Isuzu FA Vase: Bridgwater United 5-2 Longwell Green Sports
BRIDGWATER United have progressed into the next round of the Isuzu FA Vase after a strong 5-2 win at home over Longwell Green Sports.
The First Division Longwell Green were up against it from the start but they gave it a really good go in the second half, to give them credit.
It took just eighth minutes for the deadlock to be broken when from a Jake Llewellyn corner kick Thorne headed in from close range with the keeper not going for the cross.
It was 2-0 just a few minutes later when from another corner, this time taken by George King, Ross Edwards flicked it on to the back post where Thorne swivelled to score.
United were in control however the third goal was somewhat fortunate as Thorne’s shot from just outside the box took a deflection off a defender and sailed over the keeper into the net.
That left the score at 3-0 at the break with the Robins in firm control in front of a vocal group of home fans.
Longwell Green started the second period fired up though and in fact pulled a goal back from a corner kick as Lewis Coleman headed in from close range for 3-1.
However Bridgwater took control once again after the Longwell keeper made a poor pass which bounced straight to Jack Taylor who forced the ball over the line.
United, however, were still not satisfied and the fifth goal was perhaps the best of the afternoon.
Taylor exchanged passes with Harry Horton and the return ball was perfectly weighted for Taylor to take a touch and calmly place the ball under the keeper and into the net.
Longwell pulled a goal back right at the death as captain Matt Brown chipped Viney from close range to make the final score 5-2.
All in all it was a very strong display from Bridgwater who continued their recent goalscoring form. It is becoming almost expected from the fans in fact, with them often asking how many goals will we see today?
Bridgwater came into this game on top of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division, and even after a week off from league action they remain top.
That is thanks in part to local rivals Street fighting back to draw with Helston Athletic to stop the Cornish side from moving into first place.
So, first place in the league midway through November and still in the FA Vase. A good season so far for Bridgwater United.
