PEOPLE planning to join the M5 at Bridgwater are being advised to seek an alternative route for most of the rest of the afternoon (Friday, November 17).

Travel Somerset has warned of a collision on Chilton Polden Hill on the A39.

A stretch of the road has been closed as emergency services deal with the incident.

A social media post recently put on X - formerly Twitter - by Travel Somerset says: "There has been a collision on Chilton Polden Hill on the A39, so the affected area of road has been closed (this will affect the J23 M5 roundabout).

"So for approximately the next three hours try to seek an alternative route."

It has emerged that a car collided with a generator that had become detached from a vehicle towing it.

It is not believed anyone has been injured.
