HOST Somerset has announced it has raised £5,663 for St Margaret's Hospice following a 24 hour Move-A-Thon fundraiser.

It took place at the organisation's Hinckley Campus from 12.30pm on October 25 and concluded at the same time on the following day.

The charity event aimed to fill 48 half-hour treadmill slots with members of the HPC workforce, guests, and the team.

Participants walked or ran for 30-minutes on a treadmill located in HOST's reception area, every moment live streamed online.

St Margaret's Hospice holds special importance for numerous staff members at HOST.

Campus security officer Yvonne has personally experienced the vital care the hospice provides, having spent time there with her late husband, Ian.

She said: "Hospice care is a gift given with no demands or expectations.

"They are just there, they were our angels."

In recognition of her personal connection to the charity, Yvonne had the honour of opening the Move-A-Thon shortly after a moving speech by Campus Director Mark Flinton.

The event also included a visit from St Margaret’s Hospice Bee mascot who mingled with contributors, shook hands and had pictures taken.

Further contributions to the cause were made via a raffle and cake sale, encouraging guests, HPC workforce, and other visitors to donate to the local charity.

The last slot of the Move-A-Thon was completed by HPC Site Operations Manager Rob Evans, who was joined by Mark Flinton.

A closing announcement of the raffle winners was subsequently made at the end of the event.
